Dudley Peck), apparently speaking in 1957, addresses her Wellesley class of 1918. At the end she introduces a passage spoken by Gómez, a former witch doctor. [It is not clear how a recording from 1957 got on this tape.] [b] Gómez speaks about his experience as a witch doctor (the date is apparently 2 October 1953). [Note: The notations on the back of the box are difficult to understand. Two different speakers are heard on "Track 1", and the word "chinchicbame' " is heard at the beginning. These must be the recordings of Sept. 28 & 29, 1953. Dorothy Peck's voice opens Track 2, and she appears to be introducing the recording that follows (a dub?). The track concludes with a Gómez narrative that sounds like a live recording (of Oct. 2?).]

It is not clear why the content of both tracks is similar (both tracks are copies of other tapes?). As it is, the contents of "Track 2", as noted on the back of the box, do not seem to match the recording.]
- archival Tape 5: Eleuterio Gómez Note: There are no contents whatever noted on the box. The track that was first played is considered Track "1". The identity of the consultant is assumed to be the same as on the other tapes; i.e., Eleuterio Gómez. From time to time another man's voice breaks in, apparently identifying the subject of the (foregoing?) narrative.
- archival Tape 6: Alejandro (Monrovia) Contents (from the back of the box): 11/14/55 1-1½ Alejandro Monrovia E’bixau 20 k’ijtu’n 1½-2½ Yabti Alejandro - tauk’in Mes 8 abk’i 2½-8 Tsiybil " |abk’i 10 meses | ocslan Q2 Q2 8-10 Caden, Sn. The marginal numerals apparently refer to minutes and locations on the tape. Monrovia is a town in the municipio of Cajolá in the Department of Quetzaltenango.]

- archival Tape 8: Eleuterio Gómez Contents: There is no writing whatever on the back of this box. Nevertheless, it is Eleuterio Gómez speaking at length on witchcraft practices. (Also, a man (probably Dudley Peck) is heard--as on the other tapes in this series--prompting the native speaker.
